Goal-setting tips more than the S.M.A.R.T way

Why are goals important and how to reach your goals in life?

You cannot figure out how to reach your goals if you don’t know why goals are important.

Setting goals can seem like a worthless exercise when you cannot get positive results about what you set out to achieve.

Some people always ask themselves this one question: “Why are goals important?”

They feel that it is useless to set goals.

But t is a very important question because once you start understanding how powerful it is to set goals in all important areas of your life, you begin to have a meaningful perspective of where you want to go and what you want to achieve.

I know that most people don’t like working hard and trying different kind of things to make achieving goals possible. You might also probably think that it may be easier to just live your life and not set goals.

But in most cases, this happens when you don’t know the right way to set goals that are inline with your core values and beliefs.

Before I share with you steps you can take on how to reach your goals, you need to first know why are goals important in your life.

Setting goals helps you identify where you are, where you want to go, what are your priorities and the things you want to achieve.

When you set meaningful goals, you’ll feel motivated to do whatever it takes to reach your goals.

You, too, have a dream. Your dreams will come true when you set goals. This is powerful because it will help you stay focused on reaching your goals.

I have shared 26 benefits of how setting goals can help you know how to reach your goals with ease.

For many years, I struggled to figure out why those who use the S.M.A.R.T goal setting technique achieve what they want while others struggle.

It was until I looked into my own struggles and challenges when setting goals that I finally figured out the root cause of why I wasn’t where I wanted to be or who I wanted to become, and why I struggled to achieve my goals and objectives.

Please allow me to share with you the number one, most powerful reason why I have battled to achieve my long term and short term goals so that you don’t repeat my mistake.

I ignored the power of self development for years. Like most people, I thought that once I acquired my degrees and earn an income, it was enough, and I didn’t have to continue learning. Actually, the word “Self-development” didn’t exit in my vocabulary for many years.

This is the thing that is at the centre of the difference between successful and unsuccessful people. One of the habits of successful people is that they constantly invest in personal development.

Personal development is very important to get you prepared to achieve the goals and objectives you’ve set for yourself, both short term goals and long term.

Are you constantly in a habit of indecisiveness? Successful people always make decisions regarding their choices. One way to train your mind to make wise decision is to invest in self-development so that you learn new things.

If you lack specific Knowledge you need to apply in setting your goals and achieving them, how would you make the right decisions that support your goals and objectives?

If you can’t decide, chances are you’ll move around in circles, with confusion. And you’re likely to make wrong choices if you can’t decide wisely and logically.

You have to know and understand who you’re. You have to make the right choices and decide the kind of life you want to live.

You are constantly presented with choices every day and you have to make decisions that affect your life.

If you choose to live other people’s passions; or chase other people’s dreams, as opposed to discovering what lies deep inside you, it is the choice you made. You must be happy with the consequences and your results.

Getting university degrees might be your goal, but not someone else’s and vice versa. But, it is it your goal, you have got to decide which academic degree you are going to enrol for.

You have to decide what it is you truly love doing and follow that. You’ll find that your decisions brings out more happiness, joy and fulfilment when compared with having to live your life based on other people’s choices and decisions.

What are your beliefs? If you’re deeply rooted with negative beliefs, opinions and superstitions, the universe might present you with an opportunity to make your own choices and decisions.

You can decide to continue with those negative beliefs or to replace them with positive beliefs that are supportive of who you want to become.

Most people are not successful and they will never be for a simple reason that they strive to please others and not themselves.

They don’t live their own live. They fail to make decisions that will help them accomplish their goals, objectives and dreams, because everyone around them keep bombarding them with negative beliefs that demotivate and get them defocused from their goals.

If you can’t make decisions, how are you going to take action? Where there’s a habit of indecisiveness, there’s inaction cohabiting!

Man taking action to achieve goals

Action is the most important thing in order to achieve real success. You can learn and learn from the best in the world, but if you can’t decide what it is that you want and where you want to be, or who you want to become, you won’t get there.

Furthermore, if you don’t make decisions and implement what you learnt, your inactivity will give you the result you deserve.

1. Don’t think about your past experiences when making decisions. If you do, you create a situation where you will never make the right decision.

If you have failed in the past, you might automatically believe that you’ll fail again. If your past was driven by too much negativity, you might relive the same negativity and you might not break through that.

2. Don’t bring excuses when you have to decide. Excuses and too much reasoning have stopped millions of people from reaching their true, unlimited potential.

Through my research, I have discovered that the habits of unsuccessful people is that they have too many reasons and excuses to justify or explain why they haven’t reached their goals and objectives. They have a lot of reasons why they they know how to set and achieve their goals effectively.

The worst effect of having too many explanations is that it might create a barrier between you and your goals and aspirations, and possibly make you lose focus from your goals. The end result is that they might eventually fizzle to non-existent.

3. Don’t repeat the same mistakes over and over. Learn from your mistakes and don’t let them cost you your success in future.

The process of goal setting isn’t as easy as most people make it out to be. Learn from our past mistakes.

Figure out why you have previously failed and how to set goals differently, but effectively this time, you might just increase your chances of achieving them.

4. When you are presented with an opportunity, always be open-minded and see beyond the opportunity. This will help you make the right decisions. If is a business opportunity, visualize yourself already successful, that’s if the opportunity is real and is not too good to be true.

If is marriage, see yourself successful, having a beautiful spouse, lovely children, and living in a stunning house. You have got to build your dream and create it in your imagination. This is very critical as it could help you make decisions that will propel you forward to taking the right steps to achieve what you want.

5. Unsuccessful people are often uptight and they are resistant to change. Accepting change might help you see opportunities.

Allowing change to happen in your life, you empower yourself to see if an opportunity is great and not so great. This will begin the process of getting your brain cells into work to help you make proper decisions.

It doesn’t matter whether the decision is good or bad, the most critical thing to do is to decide and liberate yourself to success or mediocrity.

6. Prioritize. You have to be able to see what is important and what is less important. Learn how to prioritise. If you know what is very important and need to be done as soon as possible, you shouldn’t struggle to make a decision.

Think about what it would mean if you have done want you have planned to do. How will your life improve?

For example, sometimes you have to decide to buy a burger at McDonald’s or to save that money. If you know that financial freedom is more important that instant gratification, you shouldn’t struggle deciding what to do.

7. Get out of your comfort zone and tap into doing uncomfortable things You can’t do only the things you’re comfortable with if you truly want to achieve your goals and live the lifestyle of your dreams.

Another habit of successful people is that they are always willing to do the things that unsuccessful people aren’t willing to do. This is the secret why they often succeed even when they are doing uncomfortable things.

If you want to achieve greatness in something, you need to have the right mindset and be prepared for that which you want. It could be in business, health, career, family or personally.

You have got to be prepared so that you can make the right choices. You’ll be in a position to eliminate options and be decisive with clarity.

make decisions

I had been in a situation where I couldn’t decide, too. One day, some years ago, I attended a life-changing seminar where I met different successful, world class speakers. They were all teaching the audience something for one to two hours.

For example, a sales guru taught people how to sell and overcome rejection. After this, he sold his 2 day program or workshop where he taught those who signed up every steps they need to take in order to succeed in sales and increase their profits.

I sat there in the audience. I liked almost six speakers that day and each were selling their programs at over $1100. I just could not afford to attend all of the programs.

I was indecisive. I couldn’t choose which one to buy at that time. I had a lot of “What if’s” lingering my mind and my little voice also kept reminding me how expensive the courses were, and that they were not really worth it, my life won’t change, I will never become financially free, and so on. Can you relate?

I had to choose and decide which course to take and I had to weigh the benefits of doing any of the courses before I signed up. I had to look into my situation and priorities at that time in order to eliminate the other options.

I could not have attended a “Rekindle Your Marriage Program,” if I was not married! I could also have not paid for a course of “How to Sky-rocket Your Business Profits in the Next 24 Hours Program,” if I didn’t have a business.

So, looking into your current situation and evaluating what it is that you need now, will help you realise what you need to prioritise on and make prompt decisions.

The program I decided to attend and invest both my time and money on has brought me great, lucrative opportunities, and I felt great, liberated, happier and unstoppable after that.

I have learnt all the secrets successful people use to attract great, enduring success, as well as the tools, resources and strategies that create wealth. If I failed to decide on that day, I wouldn’t be where I am today.

What does your indecisiveness cost you? Are you losing opportunities because you can’t make clear choices and decisions?

Are you not achieving the things you want? Think about how you can implement my tips to effective goal setting and improve your chances of achieving more in your life.

You should always take a decision that put you one step closer to achieving your goals. This is what you should think about when making decisions. Choose decisions that put you closer to accomplishing your goals and aspirations.

Goal setting shouldn’t be a mysterious daunting task at all. It is possible to achieve anything you want once you figure out how to reach your goals and understand why are goals important in your life.

If your goal is attaining financial freedom, do whatever it takes to achieve it and improve your life.
